On Friday 2nd December Benfleet Running Club presented a
cheque for £2,140
to Castle Point Sports Club for the Disabled, the club's chosen charity for
2005.
The cheque was presented by Stewart Morley of Benfleet RC who raised £1,250
alone in sponsorship for the London Marathon.
Albert Palmer chairman of the Disabled Sports Club expressed his gratitude
to Benfleet RC for the donation which has provided much needed funds for
equipment for the charity.
CPSCD was formed 28 years ago and currently has 94 members ranging in age
from 5 to 82 years old. The Sports club's activities include table tennis,
table football, snooker and pool, together with outdoor activities of open
air badminton rounders and skittles. The club also organises swimming at
the pool at Runnymede in Benfleet.
The sports club meets at 8pm in Lake View Hall in the grounds of Winter
Garden School Hilton Road Canvey Island. Swimming takes place on Sundays.
"We are the biggest disabled club in Essex and one of the oldest" said
the
club's chairman. "We are happy to receive any members, not just
disabled,
their carers and family are also welcome". All enquiries can be

Benfleet RC is a friendly constantly growing running club that welcomes
runners of all abilities. The club has enjoyed much success with the club
ladies winning team gold medals in the 2005 Essex Championships at 20 mile
and half marathon distance and silver medals in the 10 mile race. However
charity fund raising and encouraging new and less experienced runners is
also a priority of the club.
